Salaries in the NWSL

The 2016 salary cap was $278,000 US for a roster of 20 players, which is about half the cap that WPS operated on. But in the NWSL, both U.S. Soccer and Canada Soccer pay their national team players outside of that cap. The minimum salary for the seven-month season was a paltry $7,200 in 2016, and the maximum was $39,700. That doesn’t apply to national team players. Five Thirty Eight reported that top U.S. players are earning a base salary of $54,000 in the NWSL, in addition to their $72,000 base salary with the national team. Canada Soccer hasn’t made figures public.
