DEMME SUFFERED FROM CANCER
Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia, has died at 73.
Demme died Wednesday from esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease, multiple sources have reported.
Demme started working with exploitation film producer Roger Corman in the 1970s, though his career didn’t truly kick off until the ’80s, with comedy films Melvin and Howard, Swing Shift, Something Wild and Married to the Mob. He is probably best known for the thriller Silence of the Lambs, followed by Philadelphia and the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate.
He also directed several music videos with Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, and live concerts including the Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense and, most recently, the tour documentary Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids.
