Upcoming 911 GT2 is one powerful Porsche
Machine will offer more than 641 hp and hit 100 km/h in under 3 seconds
By now, it’s no secret Porsche is working on another 911 GT2. Details are already starting to surface regarding what we can expect under the skin.
After riding shotgun with Porsche’s Andreas Preuninger in a 911 GT2 prototype, Britain’s EVO Magazine has a few juicy powertrain details to share. First and foremost, as with 911 GT2s of the past, the new car will be powered by the same 3.8-litre flat-six found in the current 911 Turbo S.
Of course, that’s just the beginning. The GT2’s engine will be enhanced with a number of upgrades, including revised internals, a titanium exhaust system, and more boost, thanks to larger turbochargers, plus a water-injection system.
That’s enough for Preuninger to promise “greater than” 641 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque — two oddly specific benchmarks — as well as a zero-to-100 km/h time of “less than three seconds.” As usual, the new 911 GT2 will be rearwheel drive, but the only transmission option will be the automaker’s PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Along with the performance enhancements, the upcoming 911 GT2 will feature a handful of lightweight materials used throughout, such as carbon fibre and even Gorilla Glass. Not only that, pieces such as a titanium roll cage, carbon-fibre roof and magnesium wheels will be optional. EVO says development for the new 911 GT2 will wrap up in just a few weeks and the car will be revealed in a few months’ time.
We’re willing to bet Porsche will pull off the covers at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
