Sportsnet 650 unveils its full lineup

- PATRICK JOHNSTON Pjohnston@postmedia.com

Sportsnet 650, the new sports radio station in Vancouver set to launch in less than two weeks’ time, unveiled its full lineup Wednesday.

The hosts are going through daily, gruelling dry run broadcasts in preparation for the Sept. 4 launch.

Previously, Sportsnet has informed Postmedia News about its morning drive show — Sportsnet’s Starting Lineup with James Cybulski, Mira Laurence and Steve Darling — and the afternoon drive team — The Program with Scott Rintoul and Andrew Walker — but until Wednesday, other names connected to the station had been nothing but rumours.

Rintoul’s former TSN 1040 colleague Cam Mitchell is producing Rintoul and Walker, while Mike English and Eric Chapman are producing the morning show.

Wednesday morning, news about Walker and Satiar Shah became official: Shah, formerly producer of TSN 1040’s morning show, is hosting a late-morning program called The Playbook. Jawn Jang, formerly of 102.7 The Peak and most recently 102.9 The DRIVE, will be his co-host from 9 a.m. to noon. Bik Nizzar, formerly of Star FM, will be the producer.

From noon to 1 p.m., Shah will host Canucks Central, which will feature rotating contributors, including radio broadcasters Brendan Batchelor and Corey Hirsch and TV broadcasters John Shorthouse, John Garrett and Dan Murphy.

From 1 to 4 p.m., former CTV sports anchor and TSN 1040 soccer host Perry Solkowski will host On Point along with Hockey Night in Punjabi’s Randip Janda.

Yet another 1040 alum, Dominic Sramaty, is producing On Point.

As well, 650 will apparently feature broadcasts of the Canucks games from the Young Stars tournament in Penticton Sept. 8-11 as 1040 has done in the past.

Play-by-play man Batchelor also revealed that Cam Barra will produce game broadcasts.
