Fall is the Season for Foodies
Fall is a special time to visit Whistler. The green of summer gives way to glorious shades of red, yellow and gold. And, there’s something about being in Whistler during the fall that works up an appetite, especially after spending a day exploring the gorgeous scenery or taking a romantic evening stroll through the Village in the crisp, mountain air. That’s why fall is the season for food and wine lovers in Whistler. It’s easy to sate your hunger and thirst at one of the resort’s many fine restaurants, which offer diverse cuisine ranging from simple family fare to the sumptuously gourmet. Check out the best homemade baked goods and local produce at the Whistler Farmers’ Market. It’s held every Sunday through October 8 and an extra day is being added on Saturday, October 7 for Thanksgiving weekend. The market is open from 11am to 4pm in the Upper Village. For something truly unique, visit the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre and take part in the First Nations Hunters and Gatherers Tour and Dinner on Tuesdays and Sundays at 6 p.m. The tour is led by a knowledgeable guide who takes you through the museum to discover stories of the hunters and gatherers who traditionally inhabited the Sea to Sky territory. Afterward, enjoy a delicious indigenous-inspired feast, featuring baked bannock, west coast cedar plank salmon, buffalo smokies and much more. During the repast, you’ll be treated to a cultural presentation by a world renowned performance team. Let’s not forget that the fall season is also when Cornucopia, Whistler’s annual “Celebration of Food and Drink” descends on the resort. From November 9 to 19, wineries from around the world and Whistler’s best chefs offer a palate-pleasing array of special gourmet luncheons, dinner parties, wine tastings, after-parties and extravagant wine and food galas. It’s where the epic and the epicurious come together – and tickets (which usually disappear rather quickly) are on sale right now. So, make plans to visit Whistler this fall, and remember to bring a hearty appetite. For more information on Whistler and Cornucopia, visit whistler. com/events.
