Police Nab Dummy Riding In Hov Lane

-

Traffic police have nabbed a dummy speeding in the HOV lane on Highway 1. Officers with Port Mann traffic services were on routine patrol Tuesday on Highway 1 around the Langley-Surrey border when a vehicle, allegedly travelling well over the posted speed limit, caught the officer’s eye. Police say the vehicle changed lanes without signalling and crossed over the solid white line into the HOV lane. Officers then stopped the vehicle. That’s when police noticed the man’s girlfriend looking a little stiff and glassy-eyed in the passenger seat. The man was driving with a mannequin, a trick used by some drivers to cheat and drive in the HOV lane. The driver of the vehicle was issued several tickets and the passenger — who exercised her right to remain silent — was taken to the police station. One of the restrictions when using the HOV lane on that stretch of Highway 1 is a minimum of two people in their vehicle.
