Jaguar’s electric I-Pace SUV set to debut in Geneva in March
Jaguar’s new electric SUV, the IPace, will officially break cover in production form on March 1 at an online event scheduled just ahead of a formal unveiling on March 6 at the Geneva Motor Show.
The camouflaged prototypes that have been testing on public roads since the 2016 reveal of the concept I-Pace suggest the jump to production won’t really alter the looks much at all. However, Jaguar is expected to flesh out the I-Pace’s spec sheet at Geneva, offering, among other things, full pricing information.
What’s been made public so far is that the I-Pace’s 90-kilowatthour lithium-ion battery will power a pair of electric motors, one for each axle, and deliver 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That should be good for a zero-to-100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds. Range should be in the 350-kilometre area, and a 100-kW charger helps to replenish the battery to a 80 per cent charge from zero in just 45 minutes.
The first Jaguar I-Paces should go on sale in the latter half of 2018. Audi is also expected to reveal the production version of its e-tron electric SUV in Geneva, a direct competitor to the I-Pace.
