Q&A ANDI NAUDE

-

QYou just missed qualifying for the Olympic team in Sochi despite being ranked, I think, ninth in the world? How long did it take to get over that?

AAt the time it was incredibly tough. But I was definitely the No. 1 fan at home, on the couch cheering on my teammates. I think looking back at it, it was one of the hardest times of my life overcoming that obstacle, overcoming that disappointment. I mean, looking back at it now, I would not change a thing. I think it’s really given me the motivation and drive to know that this is what I want: I want to be at the next Games. To be one step closer is really quite special.

QThe Canadian moguls team is the best in the world. What’s it like to know you’re on the best team in the world?

ABeing a part of the best team in the world is an honour, an absolute honour. I have so much to thank my teammates for and we always push each other. We feed off of each other and that’s why we’re the best in the world. There’s this continuing cycle of “She’s doing this, I’m going to do it better,” and we’re always trying to one-up each other. I think that’s carried on through the years. Canada’s been No. 1 for a while now and I’m honoured to be a part of this time.

QCan you talk a little bit about your off-season training and what goes into it, and what particularly you need to work on as a moguls skier?

AOff-season training is sort of a non-stop effort. We usually only take a month off of skiing every year. Other than that there is no off-season, really. We spend a ton of time on the trampoline, in the gym, on the bikes, water ramping, on snow — depends on the time of the year. Did you know:
