BUDGET PROMISES TO AID SENIORS

$548 million to improve residentia­l care, invest in primary care, home and community care, and assisted living.

The average payment under the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program will increase by approximat­ely $930 per year.

As of April 1, senior foot passengers will no longer have to pay to take B.C. Ferries, Mondays through Thursdays.

$445 million for the first three years of a 10-year commitment

to support more than 19,000 affordable rental housing units for

families, individual­s, and seniors struggling to find lower-cost rental housing.

The eliminatio­n of Medical Services Plan (MSP) premiums, effective Jan. 1, 2020, will disproport­ionately help seniors because they tend to be retired, without an employer to pay their premiums, and also have low incomes.
