New bridge should have HOV lanes

-

Re: Pattullo Bridge to be replaced with province-owned, $1.4-billion bridge, Feb. 16.

I find it puzzling that the new Pattullo Bridge will not have high-occupancy-vehicle lanes. HOV lanes would aid the travel of transit buses over this key link over the Fraser River.

As well, considering the volume of slower-moving, heavy trucks on this bridge, a designated truck lane would help to smooth the flow of traffic.

I understand that, 30 years ago, the Alex Fraser Bridge had to be expanded to six lanes from four not too long after it opened because of demand. Does history have to repeat itself ?
