GET THE TREND

-

LIGHTEN UP

For a fresh look, keep the kitchen simple by avoiding pops of colour entirely. Instead, add a wellplaced backsplash window that adds light and brings the outside in. Bonus: You can adjust the dimensions to curate your view. This kitchen, with sleek white acrylic cupboards, gleaming countertops and backsplash in Caesarstone Organic White, uses natural upholstery and light wood floors to add to the feel of light and space.

GO FOR THE GOLD

“Gold is trending again,” says designer Debbie Heal, “but with a totally different look. Now it’s really an antiqued gold — not brown or bronze, but a dark matte gold that themes away from the typical shiny chrome look.” In the living room, matte gold highlights like the goose-neck lamp and the side table base add a subtle, upscale refinement.

GET RICH QUICK

For an entertaining-at-home vibe that makes a room look and feel more inviting, edge away from the neutrals. “All-grey can be so predictable,” says Heal. She put together a palette of warm greys with pops of high-contrast colours. Here, the family-friendly great room invites easy afterdinner gatherings amid the rich grey leather sectional sofa, with an arty rug for a vibrant splash.

HAVE FUN

“A sense of fun is a must when decorating children’s rooms,” Heal says. Imagination, whimsy and a sense of play infuse this small boy’s haven. Teepees are always special, and the scale of this mini version makes it the room’s go-to space for imaginative playtime. The boldly striped bedding in bright Crayola colours plays off the high-contrast blackand-white wall graphics and design elements.
