Resort’s gondola now open
SilverStar upped its four-season resort cred last weekend with the opening of a new gondola.
The Schumann Summit Express replaces the Summit Chairlift, making the trip from the village to the mountaintop in just five minutes, and providing hikers with quick access to the trails in the summer months, and skiers and snowboarders to the champagne powder in the winter. In addition, the gondola cabin provides 360-degree views of the resort property and beyond.
More than 5,000 people showed up Sunday for the grand opening,
“We would like to thank our community, our volunteers, and our staff for their support in making our Gondola Grand Opening a record-breaking event,” said Ken Derpak, SilverStar Mountain Resort managing director.
The Schumann Summit Express, is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the summer, and will be open seven days a week come wintertime.
WHISTLER’S CLOUDRAKER TOUCHES THE SKY
Whistler Blackcomb recently unveiled the Cloudraker Skybridge, which promises to give visitors a birds-eye view of the legendary Whistler Bowl.
Spanning 130 metres from Whistler Peak to the West Ridge Lookout, the bridge’s viewing platform, which opens next month, will provides 360-degree views from the Peak. A cantilevered walkway extends 12.5 metres out from the West Ridge above Whistler Bowl.
The Cloudraker Skybridge is accessible from the Peak Chair, which is open seven days a week through to Sept. 3 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Sept. 4-16.
