- ALEESHA HARRIS

Packing for a vacation can prove tricky.

Do you stuff items into your suitcase that allow you to dress like your everyday self ? Or should you adopt a more localea-ppropriate look?

According to Sam Brophy and Paola Castelo, the answer is a bit of both. The founders of the Vancouver-based brand Xane Studio believe that, when it comes to resort wear, it should be a mix of one’s go-to, minimalistic style — mixed with summertime sexy.

The design duo took time away from celebrating the recent opening of their showroom in Vancouver to chat with Postmedia News.

Q What is Xane Studio?

A Xane Studio is a resort-wear brand and shop based in Vancouver. Q For those who aren’t familiar, what do you sell? A We focus on dresses, tops, trousers, swimwear and cover ups.

Q Is there a story behind the name?

A When naming the brand, we really wanted to capture the essence of who we are and what our brand aesthetic is. Our clothing is minimalistic and sexy, and we chose a name that has those same qualities. We are a studio because we do more than just design and sell clothes. We also provide styling consulting, private shopping and host unique events.

Q Who is your target customer?

A Xane is targeting the affordable-luxury market. Consumers who are sustainably conscious and appreciate quality. Most of our customers are between 20-40 years old.

Q What makes it different from other brands?

A There are several things that set us apart from other brands. Firstly, we are sustainably conscious, meaning that we make our pieces from rescued deadstock fabrics. Our goal is to create more sustainable fabric options. Secondly, our clothes are designed to travel well. The entire collection can easily fit into a carry-on suitcase. Our clothes are lightweight and extremely versatile so they easily fit into a modern lifestyle.

Most of our customers find that their Xane pieces end up being major staples of their wardrobe that they wear quite frequently. Xane collections are designed to mix and match with other items so one can create many looks with the same piece.

Q What is the price range for your designs? A Our pieces range in price between $100-$400. aharris@postmedia.com
