Toyota trying hard to make its sedans interesting

- ALEX REID

Toyota has released a teaser photo showing two of its massive sedans with some red stripes and sporty wheels.

The Camry in the forefront even has TRD wheels. What could this mean?

Well, Toyota is trying to inject a little more excitement into its daily drivers by giving them the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) treatment.

Yes, Toyota is going to give a little racing DNA to the Camry and the Avalon in the form of a TRD Pro dress-up package, with maybe a couple of performance upgrades to go along with it. Looking at the rest of the TRD lineup, we can expect there will be some changes to the suspension, maybe wheels and tires, but not much more in the way of power.

The teaser vehicles both have sporty TRD wheels with performance tires, extended front splitters, and red brake calipers (although they’re probably just painted red, not actually changed from standard).

No image was shown of the rest of the Camry or Avalon, but we can expect extended side skirts and a splitter will round out the changes, with the possibility of a rear wing as well. The vehicles are expected to be unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show later this month, when more information will be available.

Along with the manual-transmission Corolla Hatchback, the GT86, and the soon-to-come Supra, hopefully Toyota’s new lineup will be more exciting than the reputation that preceded it.
