Celebrate Italian food and wine with a top-notch dinner
Be still, thumping hearts! Three Michelin star chef Heinz Beck of La Pergola in Rome will be cooking in Vancouver. He’s collaborating with Pino Posteraro, titan of Italian cooking at Vancouver’s Cioppino’s restaurant.
The event is part of Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World, promoting Italian food and wine, organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West.
The dinner, with wine, begins with sea scallop carpaccio with smoked potato puff, asparagus and caviar and ends with hazelnut crunch with ricotta ice cream and white Alba truffle.
Tickets to the all-inclusive dinner are $300 per person. For limited tickets, call 604-688-7466.
RED KISSES
It’s smart, spectacular and edible. Bacio Rosso (red kiss) is Cirque du Soleil meets cabaret meets dinner theatre under a red spiegeltent (travelling tent) in Queen Elizabeth Park.
I was impressed with the top notch acts and comic moments — particularly New York cabaret artist Lady Rizo’s bodacious performance and gorgeous voice, drag queen Kevin Kent’s sweet edginess and Russian acrobat Dima Shine’s superhuman hand balancing act. Oliver and Cassie’s trapeze manoeuvres were heart stopping.
And Adam Pegg, chef at the artisan al and intimate La Quercia restaurant, fed a crowd of 350 people four-course dinners. (Pork loin tonnato and pork crackling; eggplant lasagna; choice of slow-roasted beef, braised chicken or polenta with mushrooms; lemon cream pudding.)
