GIVE LOVED ONES SOMETHING ‘EXCEPTIONAL’ THIS SEASON

- ALEESHA HARRIS

The holiday season calls for a little something that sparkles and shines.

“The ones you love deserve something exceptional this holiday season,” says Angela MacAlpine, senior director for Tiffany & Co. at Burrard Street in Vancouver. “Jewelry evokes such a feeling of joy from those who receive it as a gift.”

Picking out a glinting piece of jewelry to gift to that special someone, family member or friend presents a uniquely personal opportunity, given the fact the wearable items are often tied to rich emotions and vivid personal memories, which renders them much more emotive than most other types of gifts.

“More often than not, there is a story behind a jewelry purchase, a meaning behind what piece was chosen and why it was chosen,” says MacAlpine. “It’s also a timeless gift, a gift that can be treasured forever and passed down for generations.”

While diamonds and gemstone pieces are always a safe and timeless option, this year MacAlpine says the top gifts for holiday gifting have a truly personalized feel. And that means going way beyond mere monogramming.

“At Tiffany we have a number of ways to personalize your gift,” she says.

“Clients will now have the opportunity to engrave personal sketches onto an assortment of products. I’ve seen a lot of children’s drawings brought in and engraved onto a variety of gift options. What a great way to capture a memory.”

When it comes to metal tones, MacAlpine says it’s important to observe what a person already owns and wears regularly in order to better predict their preference for gold or silver.

“It all comes down to who you’re gifting,” she advises. “Yellow gold and white gold are always classics, and rose gold can be fun and fashion forward.

“Think of the person you’re looking to surprise this holiday season and decide which one fits their style.”

While the brand’s recent collection, Tiffany Paper Flowers, is sure to prove popular for the retailer this season, MacAlpine also pointed to an ongoing range for the American jewelry brand, which is continuing to prove popular with its customers this holiday gifting season.

“Tiffany T will continue to be a hit. It’s truly timeless and iconic,” she says. “And, for the gentleman, our watches, which are bold timepieces inspired by New York City, make fantastic gifts.”

While few things excite on Christmas morning quite like spotting that iconic Tiffany Blue box under the tree, you don’t need to purchase a jewelry gift from Tiffany & Co. in order to achieve that enviable sparkle this season. But it would be wise to at least consider one of the fail-safe style tips MacAlpine suggests gift givers keep in mind while shopping.

“Necklaces, bracelets, earrings — these are always great options,” she says. “My best advice is to start noticing your recipient’s personal style. They are likely dropping you hints, so stay alert and think about what they admire in others and what brings them joy.

“If you follow this, you will find something unmistakably right for them.”

Ensuring a happy holidays, indeed.
