Northwest takes UDI/Vancouver Sun Readers' Choice Award
Northwest, a two-tower residential development built by Onni Group that rises near the Marine Drive Canada Line station, has been named winner of the 2018 UDI/Vancouver Sun Readers’ Choice Award.
The 350-suite Vancouver project, completed at Cambie Street and Southwest Marine in 2017, was also a buyer favourite, selling out quickly after it went to market in November 2014. Designed by IBI Group of Vancouver, the residential project is one of several clustered around the transit hub, which includes a movie complex, grocery, restaurants and other convenience services.
“After the entry deadline and many thousands of online ballots collected, it was clear by a strong majority which development project was the favourite of The Vancouver Sun’s reader audience,” said Darcy Kowalchuk, multi-media sales manager, retail and real estate, for the newspaper’s parent, Postmedia Network. The winner was announced Nov. 22 at the Urban Development Institute’s bi-annual awards gala at the Hyatt Regency.
The two towers, 31 storeys and 13 storeys, feature curved balconies that provide sweeping views of the North Shore mountains, Georgia Strait, Vancouver Island to the west and south over the Fraser River. Northwest includes a landscaped rooftop terrace with barbecue areas, a lounge and children’s play area and garden plots for green thumbs.
The development was one of three for which Onni was nominated for the Readers’ Choice award. The others were Charleson, overlooking Vancouver’s False Creek, and CentreView in North Vancouver.
Other nominees for the award included Holborn and TA Group for Trump Tower, Concert Properties’ Voda at the Creek, The Duke by Edgar Development, Intergulf ’s The Park Metrotown, 2 River Green by Aspac Developments, and Cressey and Atira’s joint project, Olivia Skye.
“Congratulations to all nominees and our winner on having an exceptional impact on the growth of our communities and for building our cities beautiful,” Kowalchuk said.
