Are rustic touches still en vogue for weddings in 2019? And is there a new ‘it’ hue?

Planning a picture-perfect wedding can be tricky — without taking into consideration how quickly trends seem to change. So, to help guide you in your pre-wedding prep, we asked Aly Armstrong, the founder of Aly Armstrong Event Planning and Design and the Fleur Luxury Wedding Show & Forum, to highlight the top five wedding trends to watch for this year.

Here’s what she came up with.

NO. 1: FUN WITH FLORALS

“Hello royal wedding! The floral arches at the royal wedding definitely sparked a trend. Not only do we expect to see more of these in 2019, around doorways and entrance points, we’re going to see hanging floral installations above tables, and beautiful floral focal points.

“Greenery will still play a large part in the overall design, but I do suspect we’ll see a focus on floral as well. Unusual components like pampas grass will also make an appearance.

“We’re moving away from the more structured floral centrepieces and bouquets and moving toward pieces that have more movement and look more on the natural side.”

NO .2: A TOUCH OF DRAMA

“We’re seeing oversized bows incorporated into bridal gown designs. We’re also seeing a lot of sparkle and 3-D components

like floral appliqué. The illusion neckline, as well as off-the-shoulder designs are what you can expect to see when shopping for wedding dresses.

“Let’s not leave out the men; they need their moment to shine as well. Custom suits for him are very popular going into 2019. Suit liners and details can be customized, making for a statement and personalized look.”

NO. 3: VERY VELVET

“Velvet is a great way to add a rich detail to your tablescape. Expect to see velvet napkins and ribbon making their way to dinner tables across the globe.”

NO. 4: LESS IS MORE

“We’ve seen a lot of rustic weddings in the past two years. The trend is now moving toward a more minimalist and contemporary look. Mason jars and burlap are items of the past. You can still keep costs low by going the ‘lessis-more’ route.”

NO. 5: COLOUR PLAY

“Expect to see richer and bolder tones in 2019. Living Coral is also the 2019 colour of the year, and I predict that will influence floral and decor, as well.”
