CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER
The Rugby Sevens are coming. Look out and get ready to have fun.
The Sevens, as they are affectionately known, are a hot sports entertainment property. The game is a shortened and intense version
SETTING IT STRAIGHT
An error in a photo cutline in Friday’s newspaper misidentified Vancouver Coun. Colleen Hardwick’s party affiliation. Hardwick is a member of the Non-Partisan Association. of rugby. While the Sevens look like rugby, that’s because there are players attempting to move the ball down the field and across the goalline, using the same rules as the full blown game on the same field. But that’s where the comparison ends.
The Sevens condense everything from the number of players a team — seven — to the number in a scrum, three per team, and just five substitutes. There are two sevenminute halves and everything on the field happens faster. It’s a snap, snap, snap tournament.
The fun seeps off the field and into the stands.
We invited Jamie Levchuk, managing director of the HSBC Canada Sevens, to join us for a Conversation That Matters about the sporting phenomenon sweeping the globe.
