Sister duo aims to make women feel ‘unstoppable’

- ALEESHA HARRIS

It’s not uncommon for sisters to share a love of fashion. After all, a sister’s closet can often feel like an extension of one’s own collection of clothes and handbags. If you’re lucky.

But for Aman and Kiran Sangha, that shared interest has gone far beyond mere swapping of sweaters. They’ve turned it into a business.

We caught up with the duo, founders of the Vancouver-based brand Glam Sesh, to learn more about their line.

Q For those who aren’t familiar, what is Glam Sesh?

A Glam Sesh is an online women’s fashion boutique. Our main purpose is to provide clothing that empowers women to feel strong, confident and courageous. Growing up, both of us were very shy and insecure but could use fashion as an outlet, as dressing up always made us feel strong and gave us the confidence we needed. We truly believe that the right clothes can make any women feel unstoppable. We also want to build a strong community of women supporting each other. We want you to go out into the world and be confident and the amazing you, just how you are.

Q Did you have a formal fashion design background, or is this more of a passion project?

Kiran I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, which is based in Los Angeles. I specialized in merchandise and product development, which is a mix between fashion design and business.

Aman I do not have a formal fashion background as I used to be in sciences. So, for me, Glam Sesh is a complete career 180. However, when Kiran was in L.A. for fashion school, I would go visit her frequently. Every time I would come back home, I would always get new accessories for myself, and soon some of my friends and family members started asking me where I got the pieces from as they couldn’t find anything similar in Vancouver at the time. Recognizing that there was a need for these accessories in the local market, the idea of Glam Sesh started. We launched in 2012 with accessories, but our main goal was always clothing, which we launched in 2014.

Q Where are the clothes designed/made?

A Since we buy from multiple vendors, our clothing is made from all over the world.

Q What is the price range for your pieces?

A Our price range is anywhere from $30 to $125.

Q And where can people check them out?

A You can check us out at glamsesh.ca. Also, be sure to check us out on Instagram @glamsesh as we are always popping up around the city.

Q Lastly, what’s next for you/ the brand?

A Our biggest goal is to start producing our own line that we design and produce here in beautiful British Columbia. So, stay tuned.
