NFLER NEEDED SLEW OF SURGERIES
Washington Redskins quarterback Alex
Smith needed 17 surgeries following a gruesome leg injury and subsequent infection, he revealed recently. Smith revealed the number while speaking to the medical community in Fairfax, Va., the Washington Times reported. Smith suffered compound and spiral fractures to his tibia and fibula in Week 11 of the 2018 season in a loss to the Houston Texans and underwent surgery on Nov. 18. He then battled the infection and remained hospitalized until Dec. 16. The Redskins acquired Smith from Kansas City before the 2018 season. He signed a four-year extension that put him under contract for five years and US$111 million. The deal included $71 million in injury guarantees. Ruled out for 2019, Smith was seen in a T-shirt and shorts throwing passes on the practice field Monday.
