Supercars roar for Children’s Wish

- Postmedia News

The third annual Aidan’s Cup supercar event for kids with life-threatening illnesses roars into Pitt Meadows on Saturday.

The daylong Children’s Wish Foundation event honours the legacy of Aidan MacAulay, a wish child who died after a short but brave battle with cancer three years ago.

Aidan was 13 when he was diagnosed with cancer and in July of 2016, his family received the devastating news that Aidan’s cancer was terminal. Before he died in September 2016, Children’s Wish worked with BMO Bank of Montreal to grant his wish to visit Costa Rica. Shortly after his wish trip with his family, Aidan was introduced to Scenic Rush, a Vancouver company that provides rides up and down the Sea to Sky Highway in supercars, and they provided an unforgettable day for Aidan and his father.

Inspired by that experience, Aidan’s family and Children’s Wish created Aidan’s Cup to provide other families in need of respite the joy of riding inside a supercar.

“This annual event is one of the few opportunities we have to bring our many wish families together for a day of joy and excitement,” said Laura Ullock, resource development manager, Children’s Wish Foundation, B.C. and Yukon chapter. “Words can’t describe the feeling you get behind the wheel of a supercar on a closed course, and our registered drivers not only have fun but get a rare glimpse at the power of the wish experience while supporting Children’s Wish.”

The morning portion of the event, held at the JIBC/YPK Integrated Training Centre, is reserved for donors who will get the thrill of driving exotic cars provided by Scenic Rush on the closed course. In the afternoon, dozens of wish recipients and their families will then have their chance to experience the thrill by taking laps with a professional driver.

Aidan’s Cup is presented by BMO Bank of Montreal and is in partnership with Scenic Rush. Toyo Tires is a contributing sponsor.
