Eastwood son talks style, speed, luxury timepiece
The Mille Miglia was an endurance car rally that raced through Italy, winding through the hills and villages from Brescia to Rome, and back again.
The event, considered to be “la corsa più bella del mondo,” (“the most beautiful race in the world”), first began in 1927, ending in 1957.
The current iteration, referred to as the 1000 Miglia, began in 1977. During the event, more than 400 classic and vintage cars are driven throughout four stages of the rally, where drivers are expected to drive their vehicles a set distance and at a predetermined average speed.
Safe to say, time is an important factor in the experience.
Luxury Swiss brand Chopard — a partner of the race since 1988 — honoured the event with the release of a new timepiece addition to its Mille Miglia collection.
The 2019 Race Edition is a limited-edition event-honouring release that features two options: a 44mm stainless steel chronograph with perforated leather strap, or one with 18-karat rose gold accents.
Riding alongside French pilot Romain Dumas in a vintage Porsche 550 Spyder, American actor Scott Eastwood took part in this year’s event as a guest of Chopard — yes, while wearing one of the new watch designs.
The actor, entrepreneur and podcast creator — oh, he’s also the son of actor and director Clint Eastwood — chatted briefly with Postmedia News about the experience.
Q How would you describe your personal style? A I appreciate and wear the
classics.
Q How has it evolved in recent years? A It hasn’t much. Q You joined Chopard at the 1000 Miglia this past summer. What makes the brand a good fit for you?
A It’s classic. It’s great to be a part of a quality timeless brand.
Q What can you share about your interest in racing and your experience at this year’s race?
A It was one of the most incredible life experiences I’ve had. I got to race through Italy and see parts of Italy that you’d never get to see unless you raced in that race. It was an incredible overall experience driving in that Porsche.
Q Do you have a favourite Chopard design? If so, which one and why?
A The one I wore — the Mille Miglia 2019 Race Edition watch — is amazing. It’s very balanced. As soon as I saw it on my wrist I started bugging them because I immediately wanted to keep it. It’s just a bad-ass watch.
Q Timepieces often play a major role in men’s accessories. So, are you a ‘watch guy?’
A Yeah, it’s the only accessory I wear.
Q Lastly, what’s the most beloved item in your wardrobe and why?
A A good pair of boxers and socks, more specifically, Made Here boxers and socks.
