Jumanji sequel tops box office
Jumanji: The Next Level exceeded weekend box office expectations while Richard Jewell and Black Christmas flopped, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony’s Jumanji reboot sequel starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan opened to US$60.1 million, surpassing the studio’s estimate of US$35 million. Clint Eastwood’s biographical drama Richard Jewell took in US$5 million, the second-worst opening in the 89-year-old’s directing career, behind 1980’s Bronco Billy. Black Christmas, a remake of the 1974 Canadian slasher film of the same name, debuted to US$4.4 million.
