Jumanji sequel tops box office

Jumanji: The Next Level exceeded weekend box office expectatio­ns while Richard Jewell and Black Christmas flopped, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony’s Jumanji reboot sequel starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan opened to US$60.1 million, surpassing the studio’s estimate of US$35 million. Clint Eastwood’s biographic­al drama Richard Jewell took in US$5 million, the second-worst opening in the 89-year-old’s directing career, behind 1980’s Bronco Billy. Black Christmas, a remake of the 1974 Canadian slasher film of the same name, debuted to US$4.4 million.
