New wave’s Karina dies

-

Anna Karina, icon of 1960s French cinema and frequent Jean-Luc Godard collaborator, died Saturday from cancer. She was 79. “Her look was the look of the new wave. It will remain so forever,” French Minister of Culture Franck Riester tweeted. “French cinema has lost one of its legends.” The actress appeared in seven films with Godard, who she married in 1961 and divorced in 1967. Born Hanne Karin Bayer in Denmark, Karina was a model and singer before moving to France, being renamed by Coco Chanel and discovered by Godard.
