B.C. WINE OF THE WEEK Covert Farms Amicitia 2016, Okanagan Valley $29.80 | 89/100 UPC: 628374140056 Amicitia is Latin for friends, and in 2016 it suits this friendly, organic red blend — perhaps the best yet from this producer. Winemaker Gene Covert blends 37/23/16/14/9/1 of organic Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah, creating a vibrant, harmonious red. Look for soft black cherries, raisins, a touch of cloves, and coffee with amazingly silky tannins. Serve now with a creamy mushroom risotto or grilled beef sliced thin. If you haven’t visited Covert Farms, do so the next time you’re in Oliver. This small winery follows organic and biodynamic practices and is located on a stunning 600-acre property, where they also raise a variety of organic fruits and vegetables sold in season.

WINE FOR THE CELLAR Tiberio Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Trebbiano-Malvasia 2018, Abruzzo, Italy $23.99 | 89/100 UPC: 8032919420008 The story of Azienda Agricola Tiberio is old, but the latest results under owner winemaker Riccardo Tiberio are all new and exciting. The vineyard lies 37 kilometres inland under the Majella and Gran Sasso mountains in Abruzzo, near Cugnoli. The Trebbiano vines are roughly 50 years old and they deliver impressive fruit. After several encounters in late 2019, it’s safe to say this is a delicious white wine offering northern-like freshness with a touch of southern power. The attack is skinny with bright grapefruit, lemon, lime, nettle and ginger notes. Real wine at a fair price. Drink it all summer.
