The product: Vans Foot The Bill initiative

Why we love it: Vancouver-based Antisocial Skateboard Shop is among a group of 80 small businesses in Canada, and beyond, that are part of a new initiative by Vans.

The American lifestyle brand recently launched its Foot The Bill campaign, which aims to support small shops and enterprises spanning “action sports, art, music and street culture” impacted by COVID-19. Net proceeds from the sale of each custom shoe will go back to the independent business or boutique.

“My father Paul Van Doren always said that we were a people company that made shoes. Now, more than ever, it’s important to support the people that provide spaces for communities around the world to be creative and come together,” Steve Van Doren, vice-president of events and promotions for Vans, said in a news release. “We were once a small business and wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of these partners. We hope to rally together with our consumers to lend a helping hand to those that are in need.”

Local artist Charlotte Mcharg created the work seen on the Antisocial x Vans Classic Slip-on shoe. Shop owners Rick Mccrank and Michelle Pezel say they will put the money received from the partnership toward “shop costs.”

Vans will be releasing 500 pairs of shoes for each small business collaboration. And, once they’re gone — well, they’re gone. The price: $115
