HUMPHREYS, Evan Graham

-

Evan Graham Humphreys was born at the Grace Hospital in Vancouver on April 23, 1931 and passed away on the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in Nanaimo on May 2, 2020 at the age of 89 years old.

Graham was predeceased by first wife Connie, grandson Brent, brother

Morris and sister Olwen.

Graham is survived by his wife Pam who he loved very much, and had recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Graham is also survived by 6 children Pam (Jim), Tom (Laura), Julie, Lyn (Dan), Caryl (John), and Andrew (Yvonne). Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Graham had a wonderful ability to engage with people through his stories and songs and telling of jokes.

Graham regaled his family with stories of his early childhood living on Cortes Island. He also shared many stories of his time when he was a Locomotive Fireman on the steam engines of the CP Railway. After leaving the CPR Graham worked the remainder of his working life as a Stationary Engineer at the Shell Oil Refinery in Burnaby. After retiring Graham and Pam went on many travels. Graham and Pam were very active with the Golden Age Hiking Club in Vancouver. They hiked up many mountains and down again, including the Lions three times. Graham worked on and sailed three sailboats with Pam and the family. Graham was an avid gardener and had a large garden and greenhouse. He was always busy in the garden and we enjoyed the benefits of his harvest. With an Engineer’s brain he would enjoy solving problems around the house. If there wasn’t a tool for the job, Graham would invent and build one. He enjoyed painting and carving and his artwork will be treasured by those who received them as gifts.

After many years living in Burnaby, Graham and Pam chose to move into The Berwick in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island so that they could be closer to family. Graham and Pam loved living at Berwick and were able to enjoy more care and support from family. Graham will be remembered as a charming man who was always cheerful, quick witted with a great sense of humour and a love of singing.

A Celebration of Graham’s Life will take place at a later date. Donations in Graham’s name can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital or KCTS9.
