New West online cannabis shop not delivering the goods: BBB

- TIFFANY CRAWFORD ticrawford@postmedia.com

Consumers are being warned about a shady online pot dealer with an address in New Westminster.

The Better Business Bureau says there have been several complaints about Canadian Hemp Co., with consumers alleging they either bought cannabis that never showed up in the mail or they received something they didn’t order.

One customer in Ontario told the BBB they lost $440 and that the company didn’t return calls, while another in California placed an order through PayPal and never received the product. The company allegedly didn’t return emails.

An investigation determined that Canadian Hemp Co. doesn’t have a proper licence from the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.

The New West address listed on the website belongs to another unrelated business.

The City of New Westminster doesn’t have any records for a business licence belonging to the Canadian Hemp Co.

One red flag is that the firm’s website contains grammar and punctuation errors, and encourages Canadians to pay with bitcoin.

The BBB says the company hasn’t responded to queries and has since received an ‘F’ rating.

In a separate incident, a Port Alberni resident claims to have lost $8,500 trying to buy cannabis on Hello Ganja, a pot retail website claiming to operate out of Texas.

The money was paid by email transfer, and the victim has been unable to determine the status of the order or secure a refund, the BBB said.
