Post office declines Cher’s offer to volunteer

-

If you’re worried about recent changes at the U.S. postal office (USPS) and want to volunteer — you can’t. Or at least, that’s what Cher was told when she tried.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday afternoon, the music legend asked her almost four million followers if people could offer to volunteer at the post office. “Can ppl volunteer at post office !?” she tweeted.

She clarified the reason behind her question 20 minutes later, tweeting, “could I volunteer at my post office !?” in all uppercase letters.

However, no one, according to a dismayed Cher, seemed to be able to answer her question, so she decided to take further action. Within the hour, she tweeted that she called two post offices in Malibu to ask if they accept volunteers. “I Said ‘Hi This Is Cher, & I Would like to know If you ever take Volunteers,’ ” she tweeted to her followers.

The USPS worker on the end said she wasn’t sure and passed Cher on to their supervisor, who in turn told her that they don’t accept volunteers as they require workers to undergo a fingerprints and background check.

A USPS spokesperson confirmed to CNN that they don’t take volunteers.

Many postal employees applauded Cher on Twitter and a few accepted her offer to help. “PLEASE come and help me. We have a lot of mail for you to sort,” one employee responded.
