MARVEL DECIDES TO GO WILDE
Call it Comic Booksmart. Actor
and director Olivia Wilde, shown, has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel film for the studio, according to the trade magazine Variety.
Wilde’s film roles include parts in Richard Jewell, Life Itself and Tron: Legacy. But her biggest hit has been as the director of last year’s teen-girl comedy Booksmart, which was named best first feature by the Toronto Film Critics Association.
She’s already at work on her second feature, Don’t Worry, Darling, in which she will also star alongside Shia LaBeouf, Chris Pine and Florence Pugh.
Plot details about the as-yet-untitled Marvel movie are still under wraps, but speculation is that the superhero in question will be Spider-Woman.
