MARVEL DECIDES TO GO WILDE

and director Olivia Wilde, shown, has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel film for the studio, according to the trade magazine Variety.

Wilde’s film roles include parts in Richard Jewell, Life Itself and Tron: Legacy. But her biggest hit has been as the director of last year’s teen-girl comedy Booksmart, which was named best first feature by the Toronto Film Critics Associatio­n.

She’s already at work on her second feature, Don’t Worry, Darling, in which she will also star alongside Shia LaBeouf, Chris Pine and Florence Pugh.

Plot details about the as-yet-untitled Marvel movie are still under wraps, but speculatio­n is that the superhero in question will be Spider-Woman.
