Audi S3 shows off 306-hp turbo-four
Audi has taken the wraps off the S3, its popular sport compact that’s all new for 2022.
As this is the performance version of Audi’s small car, the most important part is its engine. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder that produces 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which will help the S3 get to 100 km/h from zero in just 4.8 seconds, then onto an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Up front, the fascia hasn’t changed much from the previous generation, but there are a few subtle differences that set it apart, such as the larger air intakes that flank the grille; and new headlights with a teardrop element.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a 10.1-inch infotainment touch screen, and a separate 10.25-inch or available 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Carbon-fibre or aluminum accents can be found throughout the interior.
Audi has also worked on the suspension, lowering the ride height by 15 mm, and will offer an adjustable damping system that is linked with the electronic stability control.
There is also a Sportback version of the S3, which is unlikely to come to North America. However, we will be keeping an eye out for the RS3 and RS3 Sportback, which should follow shortly, as well as a hybrid version that will be available in both sedan and hatchback body styles.
