Wrap it up

-

We've definitely been blessed this year with late, great summery weather, but who are we kidding — we'll soon be reaching for our scarves and stockings. Whether you're the type who loves fall and everything that comes with it — cosy sweaters, red leaves on the trees, pumpkin pie — or despise it — rain, rain and more rain — it's time to get prepared, mentally and sartorially. Rebecca Tay showcases five of the best jackets and coats to layer up in as we head into the cooler months.

35 IS THE NEW 45

Club Monaco turned 35 years old on Sept. 9, and we can't quite believe it — we still remember those logo tees from the early '90s. Inspired by the “understated confidence” and “effortless sensibility” of the early campaigns, creative director Richard Chai has released a capsule collection of pieces, many of which were part of its very first collection. We love this reissued trench, which you can wear as a top or as a coat, with gloves, a hat, a warm scarf and boots for a very cool, past-meets-present look.

WARM AND FUZZIES

If you thought Levi's was just jeans and jean jackets, think again. The brand has been working on its sustainability credentials, and for fall, has released coats, chinos, backpacks and pullovers made from a range of more responsible materials. There's `cottonized hemp', hemp that's been given a soft, cotton finish, without the water and pesticide usage of traditional cotton; Thermore Ecodown, a down alternative made from recycled plastic bottles; and Repreve, a recycled polyester also made from plastic bottles and used in styles such as this very cool `Counting Sheep' ex-boyfriend sherpa trucker jacket.

DENIM DAYS

Yes, Yeezy Gap is launching in 2021 (no comment there), but until we see the collection and the product, we're happy to stick to what we like best from the all-american brand: good denim, good basics, and a good trend-forward piece here and there. Enter this denim shirt jacket, which is basically all of the above: a unique, updated take on a classic jean jacket that we can imagine ourselves wearing for seasons and years to come. BUDGET BUY

Feeling peachy keen about the arrival of fall? Then this flowy trench is for you. Made from lyocell, a cellulose fibre that's considered more environmentally friendly than viscose or cotton, it's the ultimate trans-seasonal jacket. Wear it loose and open for a more casual, artsy vibe, or add a belt to create a more feminine silhouette.

JOE & JILLY

We met her on The Bachelorette, and there's no denying that Jillian Harris has been a style icon for many in the 10+ years since. Case in point: a new collaboration with Joe Fresh (her second one with the stalwart brand) on a limited-edition `Jilly' jacket, launching Sept. 24. It's part of the Primaloft collection, which uses sustainable synthetic insulation, and this year's version also includes the too-cutefor-words `Mini Jilly' in toddler and kids' sizes.
