KROTEZ, Ana KURUCZ, Carol Jean July 26, 1944 - August 14, 2020 Ana Krotez (née Ostronic) died peacefully after living courageously with lifelong and severe mental illness. Ever generous, stoic, humble, and spirited, she will be missed by her son John Krotez, daughter-in-law Julie Brassard, and grandson Daymon Krotez. Though estranged from her family in Slovenia, Ana loved them all dearly, often sending news back home in the letters she wrote to her siblings Franje, Kristina, Barica, and Katica. Ana always expressed profound love and respect for her mother Barbara Ostronic (née Zatovšek, d. 1988) and father Franc Ostronic (d. 1986) to whom she was born in Secje Selo, Slovenia. After two years of teacher's college, Ana accompanied Janko Krotec (d. 2009) to Vancouver, Canada where they married in 1969, had a son (John Krotez b. 1970), and divorced in 1974. Ana maintained weekend visits during her son's formative years during which John learned to ice skate, ski, play tennis, and even fish. Ana worked tirelessly as a mother, food processing worker, custodian, and housekeeper amidst regular and frequent hospitalizations. The birth of her grandson gave Ana regular opportunity to spoil and smother him with love. In her later years, Ana's physical health diminished, the result of a long history of mental illness requiring necessary yet compromising psychiatric treatments. Mercifully, she died in hospital shortly after the onset of acute kidney disease. No service by request. Ljubimo te Ana, Mama, Grandma.
