Ways to help those in need
Nuba will donate two meals to the WISH Women's Drop-in Centre for every purchase of a meal kit. The kits — vegan, lamb, chicken or mixed — include up to 20 portions of Middle Eastern dishes and cost $54 to $145.
The mixed package, for example, includes a pound of chicken shawarma, a pound of merguez meatballs, three pounds of vegan stew, three pounds of lentil stew, one litre of lentil soup, 16 falafels, 12 pitas, two pounds of organic brown rice, salad, hummus, hot sauce, tahini, tzatziki, garlic sauce, olives and feta.
Nuba's donations to WISH Centre will continue to Dec. 31. The WISH Centre works to improve the lives of women who are streetbased sex workers in the Downtown Eastside — some of the most vulnerable in our society. For more information and to order a meal package for pick up or delivery, go to nuba.ca.
Being Hungry Sucks / A Better Life Foundation feeds the hungry in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, providing meals daily to 15 SROs and six community outreach organizations.
The Being Hungry Sucks fundraising campaign kicked off Dec. 1 with a live virtual concert with
Canadian talents Jann Arden, Rich Aucoin, Shane Koyczan, Sophia Danai and more.
COVID-19 and the opioid epidemic are a double whammy leaving the Downtown Eastside more
vulnerable than ever and ABLF calls on the public for support. Private donations will be matched by corporate partners. To donate, go to abetterlifefoundation.ca/ secretparty.
