- ALEESHA HARRIS aharris@postmedia.com

Started in Port Moody in 2016, the Canvas Candle Company offers hand-poured candles with unique scents, each one inspired by an “experience or feeling.” We recently caught up with founder Caylen Baker to learn more:

Q What is the Canvas Candle Company?

A Canvas Candle Company produces design-focused soy candles and accessories. Based out of Coquitlam we work with 100 per cent soy wax grown and processed within North America, phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils, natural cotton wicks and reusable containers. Each of our candles is handpoured in our small-batch process to ensure quality control and perfection across our line.

Q What makes it different from other candle companies?

A Canvas Candle Company focuses on producing a design-focused product that is also health and environmentally conscious. Our soy wax is certified vegan, non- GMO and sustainable grown and produced within North America only. We make our best effort to educate our customers on harmful chemicals commonly used within commercial fragrance products. We are also a woman-foundedand-owned business.

Q Who is the target customer?

A Women between 24 and 45 with a strong passion for sustainable products, self-care and clean, design-focused home decor. Women 55-plus who are looking for gifts for a younger generation.

Q How do you come up with the scents?

A Each of our scents is inspired by an experience or feeling. For example, our Best Coast candle is a mix of evergreen, vetiver and cedar wood, and is inspired after the absolutely stunning mountains and forests of coastal British Columbia. Q Is there a `hero' scent in the candle lineup? If so, which one and what makes it so popular? A Absolutely! Sister Sister was the first fragrance we blended. It is named after my own sister and the familiar feeling of our childhood. This fragrance has developed somewhat of a cult following over the years, and comes to represent the strong bond between sisters — either by blood or by choice.

Q What is the price range for your candles?

A Our candles range from $16 to $28. We also have a line of accessories available to help keep your candles burning cleaner and longer.

Q Lastly, where can people check them out?

A We encourage customers to shop online with us at canvascandleco.com.
