Dragons' Den star sounds off on style

- ALEESHA HARRIS aharris@postmediacom

Manjit Minhas is no stranger to style.

The Canadian CEO and co-founder of Minhas Brewery and Distillery's penchant for style is regularly on display on the TV show Dragons' Den, which she has appeared on since 2015.

This spring, Minhas is lending her fashion sense to a new campaign with Montreal-headquartered retailer RW&CO.

We recently caught up with Minhas.

Q How did the partnership with RW&CO. come about?

A I was approached by RW&CO. to partner for this and upcoming campaigns to put a spotlight on Canadian entrepreneurs. I really loved the new approach of working with real people, real faces and real voices of the Canadian community. I admire RW&CO. for humanizing the brand by replacing professional models with real people.

Q What makes the brand a good fit?

A I love that RW&CO. is a Canadian company and creativity, quality and innovation remain at the forefront of its brands. RW&CO., like me and my companies, is founded on respect, integrity, growth and commitment. These values are exhibited by the passionate people leading and creating the brand.

Q What does it mean to you to be a part of a campaign like this?

A As a young minority woman who has always been surrounded by mainly men, whether it be while at university studying engineering, being in the liquor business starting and running Minhas Breweries and Distilleries, or being a venture capitalist Dragon on Dragons' Den, it's exciting to bring out the feminine side of me. And I'm excited for my little girls and all BIPOC girls to see someone who looks like them on billboards, TV, etc. and in a campaign that representation matters.

Q How would you describe your style?

A I would describe my style as professional yet comfortable, polished and sophisticated — yet I love feminine details. I truly believe when you look good, you feel good and bring your best, most confident self to your career and life.

Q And how has your style changed over the years?

A My style has evolved over the years with having kids and juggling home life and business while still wanting to be stylish, travelling lots and looking for comfortable, well-tailored yet polished clothes. And I love colour more than ever! Life is too short to wear boring clothes.

Q Lastly, what's your go-to garment for spring?

A I love coats and layers because in Canada the weather changes by the hour in spring. I am in love with the RW&CO. Classic Trench Coat in Oatmeal.
