RITTICH COMFORTS FLAMES FAN

-

It was “Big Save Dave” to the rescue of a heartbroken four-year-old Calgary Flames fan. In a video posted to Twitter, the father of the young fan gently explains that the lad's favourite player, goaltender David Rittich, pictured, was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the NHL trade deadline. “Why? ... why? ... I wanted him to (play) for the Flames,” said the moppet, trying to comprehend the news, tears welling up before he turned away from the camera. The clip touched Rittich, who contacted the family Thursday. “I saw the video and he was so sad,” Rittich said. “So, I was thinking, `What can I do for him?' At least call him and send him a jersey. Make him a Leafs fan right now.” Rittich was lauded in 2019 for his part in another touching video, where his autistic brother Tomas, a huge fan of the Flames mascot, met Harvey the Hound and burst into tears of joy.
