FORMER OFFICERS FACE U.S. RIGHTS CHARGES IN GEORGE FLOYD KILLING

-

A grand jury on Friday issued a three-count indictment charging former police officer Derek Chauvin — convicted of murdering George Floyd — and three former fellow officers — Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane — of violating his constitutional rights, including his right to not have his medical needs ignored.

Chauvin was convicted of state murder charges last month. His lawyers on Tuesday requested a new trial, saying there had been errors and misconduct in the trial.

Thao, Kueng and Lane will go on trial Aug. 23 on charges they aided and abetted the second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter of Floyd.
