EX-PRESIDENT SERIOUSLY HURT IN BOMB ATTACK

The former president and speaker of parliament in the Maldives was in critical condition Friday after a bomb attack near his home in the capital.

Mohamed Nasheed, 53, was injured Thursday as he entered a vehicle outside his residence in the capital, Male. Images on social media showed blood, debris and a mangled motorbike following the blast.

The police commission­er said Friday that “all evidence indicates that this was a deliberate act of terror.”

Nasheed, a prominent pro-democracy politician, underwent multiple surgeries for injuries to his head, chest, abdomen and limbs and is in critical condition in ICU.

Three members of Nasheed's security detail and a bystander were also injured.
