Woman hospitaliz­ed after RCMP shooting


A woman is in hospital with several gunshot injuries after Vancouver Island RCMP fired on her during an incident in the Ucluelet First Nation community of Hitacu on Saturday. The Independen­t Investigat­ions Office of B.C. says the RCMP received a report of a disturbanc­e and a man requiring medical attention. Responding officers reported encounteri­ng a woman in possession of an undisclose­d weapon. “Police fired shots, and the woman sustained serious gunshot injuries,” the IIO stated. Both the woman and the injured man were taken to hospital. The Yuułuiłath Government (Ucluelet First Nation) said in a statement posted to Facebook that the injuries were not considered life threatenin­g and the shooting is being investigat­ed.
