Grouse Grind opens for season

- SCOTT BROWN

Tis the season to rise and grind.

Metro Vancouver reopened the Grouse Grind to hikers yesterday morning. The steep and strenuous 2.5-kilometre trail up Grouse Mountain is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

However, downhill hiking is prohibited on the Grouse Grind trail, and hikers will need to descend the mountain on the Skyride gondola. Skyride reservations can be made in advance on the Grouse Mountain

Resort website. Masks are mandatory for all Skyride users.

Meanwhile, Grouse Mountain's BCMC trail was closed yesterday as a trail improvement project gets underway with helicopter drops of materials and supplies.

Starting later this month, the BCMC route will be closed Monday to Thursday for 10 weeks to allow work to be carried out.

“For public safety, it is imperative that hikers do not use the route while crews are working,” Metro said.
