Fit for a (disco) queen
She will survive — she just wants to do it elsewhere.
Disco queen Gloria Gaynor is trying to sell her 8,000-squarefoot home in Green Brook Township, N.J., just outside of Newark. She's had the place on and off the market for more than two years, pricing it between US$1.175 million and $1.495 million, and now Dirt.com reports this time she's going in at $1.249 million.
Built in 1988, the custom-built mansion is well-preserved with a wealth of 1980s and '90s features spread over three floors.
Remember those glass block walls so popular back then? There's one snaking along part of the house's front. Inside, a glass wall hems in the den/office, opposite a fully mirrored wall. The entrance has a tall octagonal foyer with a spider-veined black marble floor, and the living/dining area is looking fly with a marble-tiled fireplace and a snazzy jewel-shaped chandelier.
The main suite boasts a lounge, fireplace and walk-in closet. French doors open to a sunroom, and the bathroom has a jetted tub done up in black marble plus a shower formed by another curved wall of glass blocks.
Other highlights in the home: A kitchen area with full-height French doors, a fireplace and granite countertops; four guest bedrooms; and a lower level stocked with a wet bar, pool table, gym, jukebox and a home theatre with a dozen puffy black leather recliners.
Gaynor, 77, told The New York Times she's building another house in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., closer to Manhattan, that will incorporate her favourite parts of her current home.
