Tripped up

- SHARON NOEL

In September, I travelled with my 88-year-old mother, Lillian, on a short tour with Paramount and Sun Fun Travel, to the Kootenays. There is endless beauty in B.C. for those of us who enjoy travel in the fall.

Our first night was in Revelstoke, then it was on to Nakusp and finally Nelson where we stayed for a couple of nights. We had a day trip to Kaslo and other sites in the area.

Soon after we began the trip to our next stay in Fairmont Hot Springs, our tour guide, Anne, received a call from the hotel. My mother had left her purse behind.

Anne worked with the Sun Fun tour manager in Kamloops to arrange for a courier to ship the purse to Fairmont, forgetting that the next day, Sept. 30, was now a holiday. The purse arrived at the hotel in Fairmont after we had departed on the way to Golden then Kamloops. Soon after leaving Fairmont, Anne received a call from the hotel. This time I am the one who left behind a bag! I had to laugh at myself.

My credit card was blocked by the card company because I hadn't told them I was travelling (maybe they thought it had been stolen). And my mom's card was in her purse, so Sun Fun paid to ship both bags home. I was able to pay the bill after returning home and calling the card company. Our bags arrived three days later.

We will certainly remember this trip because of the beautiful vistas we saw and the great people we met. And also because of our silly actions. I think next time these two seniors will require a babysitter when we leave home.
