B.C. gangster is shot to death in Edmonton
Curtis Vidal moved to Alberta after serving time for 2013 Fraser Valley home invasion
Three years after his kid brother was shot to death in Chilliwack, B.C. gangster Curtis Vidal was killed earlier this week in southwest Edmonton.
Vidal, 41, had been living in Alberta since completing his eightyear sentence for B.C. convictions related to a violent 2013 home invasion in the Fraser Valley.
Last summer he posted on his Facebook page that he got married in Edmonton.
The Edmonton Police Service initially would not comment Wednesday when Postmedia asked about Vidal being shot to death in the city. But on Thursday evening, the EPS issued a news release confirming the B.C. man had been gunned down late Tuesday in the area of Edgemont Way and Erasmus Crescent and Erasmus Wynd.
Investigators are looking to speak to witnesses who saw a silver 2015 Subaru Outback in the area between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The news release also said that police “responded to the report of an injured male at a residence in the area” and found him dead inside a front attached garage.
Vidal, a longtime criminal who was based in Chilliwack before his latest sentence, was close to Hells Angels associate Clayton Eheler and had been aligned earlier with the Red Scorpions and Independent Soldiers before shifts in those gangs.
Vidal's younger brother James, then 33, was shot to death in Chilliwack on March 10, 2019, about 6:30 p.m. in the 45700-block of Alexander Avenue. No one has been charged in the killing.
The B.C. Supreme Court judge who last sentenced Curtis Vidal in February 2016 noted that he had 55 convictions over a 20-year period at the time.
Justice Brian Joyce said Vidal, who was born in Surrey before moving to Chilliwack as a teen, “had a tumultuous childhood. He became involved in the criminal justice system starting in 1995 as a youth.”
Joyce also sentenced Vidal in 2009 to three and a half years in prison after he fired a Beretta into his own vehicle after a fight with his then girlfriend.
“He was then involved in a police pursuit through the streets of downtown Chilliwack,” Joyce wrote. “The police pursuit ended when Mr. Vidal jumped from the SUV while it was still moving. The SUV continued down the street for a short distance before it crashed into an apartment building.”
Before he left B.C., Vidal had been in conflict with members of the United Nations gang.
