MORRIS, Robert (Bob)

Mar 1, 1940 - Apr 12, 2022 Bob passed away early in the morning of April 12th at VGH after a hospital stay due to an infection. Bob was born the eldest of four in Winnipeg. He was the first in his family to go to university, paying for it himself, and earning a Bachelor of Arts. He met the love of his life, Eileen Sunderland (1941-2012), in high school while coaching her basketball team. They married in 1965 and spent the following years travelling and then living in Sydney, Australia. They returned to Canada in 1969 and settled in North Vancouver, where their daughter was born in 1972 and their son in 1974. Bob worked as a social worker and probation officer, and then finished his career as the director of a youth custody centre. Bob had many interests and hobbies but reading and sports were two of the strongest. He was a constant presence at children's sporting events growing up and later for his grandchildren. Bob was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather and is deeply missed by his son Jamie, daughter-in-law Wendy, and granddaughter Arwyn, and his daughter Jodi, son-in-law Mike, and grandchildren Owen and Lily. He is also survived by his brother Jacques, sister Gwen, his cousin Pat, and relatives by marriage on the Sunderland side of the family. Bob spent the final years of his life at Cavell Gardens in Vancouver, enjoying the community and friendships he made there, and the family wish to thank the staff at Cavell for their care. They would also like to thank Jim and Donna Phair for being lifelong family friends and for being at Bob's side in his last days. They would also like to thank Bob's friends and family who visited/ called him while he was in the hospital. As per Bob's request there will be no service. His ashes will be scattered alongside that of his wife, Eileen, in a small family gathering. Although Bob is no longer with us, his kindness, generosity of spirit, and hearty laugh will always be remembered.
