Leafs will ride with Woll for Game 5

-

Joseph Woll is in line to get the nod in another mustwin moment.

The rookie goaltender is scheduled to start Game 5 of Toronto's second-round playoff series with the Florida Panthers after putting up a 24-save performance in the Maple Leafs' 2-1 victory Wednesday that kept their season alive.

Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe said Thursday before the team flew north that Ilya Samsonov remains unavailable with an upper-body injury. Matt Murray is slated to serve as the backup today with the Leafs once again looking to stay alive, down 3-1 in their best-of-seven matchup.

“He hasn't skated,” Keefe said of Samsonov.

Woll, 24, was 6-1-0 in seven games with the Leafs during the regular season and went 16-4-1 with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Jeff Reinebold is back with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The veteran CFL coach was named Hamilton's special-teams co-ordinator and assistant defensive backs coach Thursday.

This marks Reinebold's third stint with the Ticats, having served as special-teams co-ordinator from 2013-16 and 2019-21.

He most recently worked as director of player development at the University of Hawaii (2022-23).

The Ticats also hired former CFL head coach Scott Milanovich as a senior assistant coach.

Milanovich, a three-time Grey Cup-winning coach, most recently served as quarterback coach with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts (2021-22).

Toronto FC coach Bob Bradley revealed his son, captain Michael Bradley, left for England on Thursday to undergo a procedure Saturday in London on his hamstring.

The 35-year-old midfielder has not played since April 8, missing the last five games, with the injury taking longer than expected to heal. Recovery is expected to take eight to 10 weeks.

Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen recorded his 400th career save on Wednesday, becoming the seventh pitcher in major league history to accomplish the feat.

The only other pitchers to reach the 400-save plateau are Mariano Rivera (652 saves), Trevor Hoffman (601), Lee Smith (478), Francisco Rodriguez (437), John Franco (424) and Billy Wagner (422).

Hall of fame coach Mike Krzyzewski has been appointed the NBA's special adviser to basketball operations. He will begin his new role next week at the meeting of NBA GMs in Chicago.
