Charm trumps ostentation
Not all celebrity real estate involves a palatial mansion, sprawling grounds and an abundance of amenities. Some smaller properties have a charm all their own. Case in point: Jenny Slate's craftsman-style cottage in the Silver Lake Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles. The actress and comedian is renting it out for $12,500 a month, reports Realtor.com. The lease runs between six and nine months.
Built in 1912, the 2,100-squarefoot home is located near Sunset Boulevard. Outside, a gated driveway makes its way past a Zen garden and mature trees, and a shaded front porch leads into the house.
The fully furnished home has a cosy yet light-filled interior, with historical details throughout. The decor is whimsical — think patterned wallpaper and pops of colour — and the furniture leans toward midcentury modern.
In the kitchen, you'll find cream-coloured cabinets, stainless steel appliances and a green-andwhite tiled backsplash. Over in the living and dining area, there's a built-in mantel, hardwood floors and generously sized windows.
The office is tucked behind French doors and features custom shelving.
Up a few steps, there's a family room that can double as a bedroom. It has sliding doors leading to a backyard, which holds a pergola-topped dining space covered with ivy. One of two bathrooms is located off the den — the other is upstairs, decked out with powder-blue tiles and a walk-in shower. Also on the top level, you'll find the primary bedroom as well as a guest bedroom.
Slate bought the property for $1.5 million in 2017, according to Architectural Digest. After appearing in the 2009-10 season of Saturday Night Live, she had her breakout role in the 2014 romcom Obvious Child. Slate voices Gidget in the movie franchise The Secret Life of Pets, and she's had television roles in Bob's Burgers, Parks and Recreation and Big Mouth.
Slate also co-wrote and starred in the stop-motion short film trilogy Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, as well as the 2021 feature film of the same name.
