Rourke officially returns to Patriots

-

Canadian Nathan Rourke is officially back with the New England Patriots. The NFL club formally announced Rourke had signed a oneyear deal. New England claimed the six-foot-one, 210-pound Rourke off waivers in December from Jacksonville.

Exactly where the ex-B. C. Lions QB fits in with the Patriots is a mystery. New England has reportedly agreed to deal former starter Mac Jones to the Jaguars, but is also said to have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran free agent Jacoby Brissett.

The Patriots also have the third pick of the 2024 NFL draft and are expected to use it on a quarterback.

The Victoria native was named the CFL's top Canadian for his stellar 2022 season with B.C. He threw for 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns in 10 games . Rourke also ran for 304 yards and seven touchdowns to secure the league's top Canadian award.

The Kansas City Chiefs have restructured quarterback Patrick Mahomes' contract, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday, giving the Super Bowl champions some much-needed salary cap space. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the financial details were not public.

By restructuring the contract, which would have counted more than US$58 million against the cap for the upcoming season, the Chiefs created more than $21 million to use elsewhere. That could include pursuit of help at wide receiver, their need for a new left tackle, or in re-signing their own free agents.

Tiger Woods never did it. Neither did Jack Nicklaus. In fact, as the Players Championship marks its 50th anniversary, no one has ever defended their title at TPC Sawgrass. Next up is Scottie Scheffler.

“It's a golf course where you don't see a lot of repeat winners in general,” Scheffler said. “There's not a guy that you have seen win on this golf course a bunch.”

Only five players have won twice on the Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass, which has a reputation of never favouring a single style of golf. There is trouble just about everywhere that everyone seems to find at some point over the tournament.

“That's why I think it's one of the best places we play on tour, just because it really doesn't suit one type of player,” Scheffler said.

UFC Hall of Famer and former champion Mark Coleman was airlifted to a hospital and was “battling for his life” after saving his parents from a house fire in Ohio this week, his daughter said on Instagram. Morgan Coleman posted that her father went into the burning house several times and was able to bring out his mother and father.

Coleman said her 59-year-old father was at the hospital “battling for his life after this heroic act.”

Coleman, an Ohio native, was UFC's first heavyweight champion in 1997.
