Brittany Phelan won gold at a World Cup ski-cross stop Friday to highlight another successful day for Canadian athletes on the circuit.

Phelan, of Mont-tremblant, Que., overtook teammate India Sherret in the final round to win her second gold of the season. Sherret, from Cranbrook, took silver ahead of Switzerland's Saskja Lack.

“It was awesome today,” said Phelan. “Feels really good to get a second win, two is better than one, and it was cool to cross the finish line and see India there with me.

In the men's competition, Reece Howden of Chilliwack earned bronze.

The results come a week after Canada swept the podium in a women's race at Veysonnaz, Switzerland, with Marielle Thompson of Whistler finishing first followed by Phelan and Sherret.

Thompson finished fifth with a win in Friday's small final and led the overall standings with 977 points heading into today's season-ending race.

France's Marielle Berger was second with 910 points, followed by Phelan at 874.

In men's competition Friday, Howden finished behind Sweden's David Mobaerg and Italy's Simone Deromedis. Gavin Rowell of Prince George was a career-best fifth and Jared Schmidt of Ottawa was seventh.

Howden was third overall with 641 points heading into today's finale, behind Mobaerg (680) and Switzerland's Alex Fiva (678).

Shai Gilgeous-alexander says he's humbled by the year he's having.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard is considered a leading contender for the NBA'S most-valuable player award.

Gilgeous-alexander is putting up some of the best numbers in the league this season for the Western Conference-leading Thunder.

The Hamilton native was in Toronto as OKC played the Raptors on Friday night.

“A little bit of it is humbling, just to know that everything I've done has worked out and paid off. There's a little bit of luck that's gone into it,” Gilgeous-alexander said.

“It's exciting for me because I want to see how much more work I can put in and see how much more I can accomplish.”

Gilgeous-alexander said he hopes to carry this momentum into this summer's Paris Olympics.

Former soccer player Robinho arrived Friday at a penitentiary in rural Tremembe, Brazil, where he is expected to serve at least 40 per cent of his nineyear sentence for rape.

Robinho, 40, was convicted and sentenced in Italy for raping a woman in a group sexual assault in 2013, when he played for AC Milan. Italy asked Brazil to jail him in his home nation since he had already returned by the time he was convicted in 2017. Brazil doesn't extradite nationals, but allows convictions from foreign courts to be served there.
